Peewee's were so close in Pembroke

This past weekend the Peewee Rep team kept fans on the edge of their seats at the annual Silver Stick Tournament in Pembroke

The Frontenac Peewee Flyers just finished a busy weekend at the Silverstick Tournament in Pembroke this past weekend.

The Flyers defeated the Brockville Braves by a score of 5-3 in their opening game Friday evening.  Saturday morning the Flyers lost 4-1 to the Russell Warriors and then that evening tied Ottawa West Carletons 3-3.  The tie pushed the Flyers into the quarter finals as the #8 seed.

Sunday morning the Flyers battled hard against the #1 seeded Smiths Falls Bears and forced a 3 on 3 sudden death OT.  Vann Thomas slid home the winning goal advancing the Flyers to the Semi Finals.

Flyers now had a rematch with the #2 seed Russell Warriors.  This time Flyers went toe to toe with the Warriors and again forced a sudden death overtime.  Blake Buchanan’s winner sent the Flyers into the Finals.

A very tired bunch now faced the #5 seed Nepean Raiders (white) for the championship.  3rd game of the day.  Raiders scored first but Braden Dillon tied the game shortly after 1-1.  The Raiders scored again to take a 2-1 lead after the first period. The 2nd period was scoreless that saw the Flyers kill off a lengthy 5 on 3 late in the frame.  Flyers pushed hard in the 3rd and with 6 on 4 for final 45 seconds were just unable to get the game tied up and lost the game 2-1.

Although we fell a bit short - the boys gave every ounce of anything they had Sunday and should be extremely proud of their accomplishment.  Coaches/parents couldn’t be prouder of this group but next time...not so many Overtimes.
