Flyers Hockey Update
Submitted By Liz Bigelow on Saturday, October 16, 2021
Frontenac Families,

It has been a crazy few weeks with try-outs, rostering, and scheduling. Thank you for your patience.
We have regular season games starting this week!!!

Here is an update with some important information.

See you on the ice

Jeff Peck VP - FMHA

Our referee-in-chief needs some help.  We need 8-10 new time-keepers and 3-4 new referees.  If you are interested please contact Willie Wilson at [email protected] or at 613-483-3379
There is an online course scheduled for 1 Nov.  This is a great opportunity for kids looking for some responsibility and income

We have all seen the difference a great coach can have on our players.  Unfortunately, every year it is getting harder and harder to find volunteers on and off the ice.  Please volunteer.  You do not need to be a great skater to help a coach on the ice.  Coaches could also use volunteers to organize all the off-ice activities.

FMH is governed by two separate Vaccination Policies.  As a “tenant” of the Frontenac Community Arena we have to follow the Provincial Guidelines captured in the FCA - RETURN TO HOCKEY GUIDELINE.  As a member of OMHA we also have to follow the OMHA VACCINATION POLICY v2.  Both these documents are located on our website. In summary:

22 September to 31 October - Vaccinations are required for anyone 18+ in the arena, and 12 year + who are not on the ice. Players 12-17 on the ice do not require vaccinations.  People can apply for vaccination exemptions

Starting 31 October (at the latest) - Everyone 12+ must be vaccinated to come into Arena and Ice.  However vaccinations are required to roster players, so if you are 12+ and have no intention of vaccinating by 31 October then you will be asked to not-participate so we can properly balance and roster teams..   Again people can apply for vaccination exemptions.

Due to a change in provincial policy we are now allowed full capacity in our stands (300 people) Spectators still need to be masked but don’t need the distancing requirement. Any other areas such as the lobby and canteen area are 50% or 2m distancing and masking.

Once a month we will be having a Goalie and Development coach to help all of our House League Teams.  These will occur during scheduled practice hours.  Thanks to our Development Coordinator - Jeff Ottenhof for making these arrangements

Moving forward we have asked that a full-time female change room be designated during Flyer ice-times.  Please talk to arena staff if one is not designated

We are happy to report that we have recently purchased 3 sets of U9 (and below) and 2 sets of U11 goalie equipment.  Thanks to the FCA Pro Shop for their support

Now that we have the season up and running, at our next executive meeting we are going to be looking at ways to:
1 - Find Volunteers
2 - Find and Develop Goalies
We have a few ideas already, but are interested in any suggestions. Let us know
