FMH YEAR END MESSAGE
Another season is coming to an end.  Only a few LL tournaments and Rep Semi-Finals and Finals left.  See below for our year-end updates.  I hope to see everyone at our year end Banquet on 10 May.

Do not hesitate to reach out and tell us what we are doing well (and should keep for next year), AND what you think needs to be improved (or added) next year.

THANK YOU - I want to personally thank the FMH Board and all the coaches, trainers and managers.  My best guess is that we have approx 100 volunteers coming together to bring community hockey to Frontenac and giving our kids a great hockey experience.  Every season has its highs and lows, and I hope  when you look back upon your season it has been filled with fun and growth!

SPRING REP TRYOUTS - Spring Tryouts have been confirmed for U11-U18.  2-3 x Shake the Rust Sessions will occur 3-10 May.  Tryouts will occur 11-18 May.  Details will be pushed out the end of the month.  U9MD tryouts will be determined shortly

OPEN BORDERS - Lots of talk about Open Borders.  While the FMH Board is still confirming our policy, this is what we are thinking:
1 - The Fury and the Flyers get preferential treatment from our rink’s Ice Allocation Policy because we provide youth community programming.  FMH will continue to provide community based hockey for Frontenac Players.
2 - Now that we are not restricted by the residential boundary rules we will increase the scope of who is a “Frontenac Player”.  This will include those players covered under the old boundaries, but will be increased to include those kids that live in the Frontenacs, go to school in the Frontenacs and/or parents pay taxes in the Frontenacs.
3 - Non-resident players will continue to be able to tryout.  These players will be able to be rostered to a Frontenac Rep Team if:  A)the team is short players, and/or B)they are a top goalie, top 4 Defence or Top 6 Forward to a maximum of 4.  In any case where a FMH coach is considering taking a non-Frontenac Player over a Frontenac player they will need to have approval from the FMH Executive.  These are the exact same rules we currently use.

We would be very interested in getting any feedback on this policy before our Manual of Operations is updated.  Please provide any comments NLT end March

YEAR END BANQUET - Save the Date!! Similar to last year we are going to do a year end Hockey Banquet.  This will be a family affair late afternoon/evening of Saturday 10 May.  Planning has just started but there will be a food truck, awards, beer tent and kid ball hockey.  Please touch base with Kelsey Shulist or Hannah Barker if you want to help!  Great ideas welcome.

BALL HOCKEY IS BACK - FMH Parent and Board Member, Hannah Barker wants to get Ball Hockey back and running at the FCA.  This is a great initiative.  If you are interested, please fill out this Survey by 17 March  This will help Hannah’s team come up with a plan!  🔗 https://forms.gle/mKnhWSkYyAcqCAHm7

GOALIE DISCOUNTS -  To encourage goalie development FMH provides 50% registration for all full-time goalies.  Without goalies, no hockey.  This reimbursement will occur over the next couple of weeks

FMH DEVELOPMENT - Thanks to all the Flyers who signed up for development.  We were essentially at 99% capacity within 48 hours. Emails have been sent directly to all families who have signed up.  The schedule is on the website.  Things may get tweaked because of Rep Playoff conflicts but we will communicate with the families affected directly

LL & SELECT COACH APPLICATIONS - We will open up coaching applications immediately following the rep tryouts end May.

YEAR END AWARDS - Each year the bench staff picks one player from each LL and Rep Team for the Jim Stinson and Al Pixley Award.  This Award is awarded to one one player from each team who best exemplifies the true spirit of hockey; handwork, sportsmanship, leadership, commitment and having fun

In addition FMH has the following other awards.  If you would like to nominate someone for these awards please send me an email with justification NLT 28 March

The Scott Muir Award - Coach of the Year

The Goodfellow HEART Award - Volunteer of the Year

The Edmunds Award -  Ref of the year

The Mike Smith Award - goalie who demonstrates outstanding work ethic, good sportsmanship and a commitment to development

FMH BOARD POSITIONS - We anticipate the following Board Positions may be open this year. The incumbent is in brackets.  Please reach out if you are interested.  Many hands make light work.  I want to stress that while we may disagree on certain issues we are very lucky to have a  strong Board united by the common goal of providing great programming for our kids.  I have really enjoyed my 10 years on the Board because of the great group of volunteers
