Hello Frontenac Families,
It's hard to believe we are at the end of July already! Here is an update on what we are working on to get ready for the first puck drop of our 2025/2026 season. It is a lengthy email, but worth the read! Unofficial rink opening will be 2 Sept. This will allow us to run U9MD Tryouts and Pre-Season Development sessions before the official opening on 13 Sept.
As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

REGISTRATION
LL Registration is open! A reminder that we will be capping registration once teams are filled, so be sure to register early to secure your spot. There are payment plan options available if this is of interest to you.
LEARN TO SKATE (LTS) REGISTRATION IS OPEN
Our Learn to Skate (LTS) registration is also OPEN! This is a 5 session program decided to get the next generation of flyers comfortable on the ice. If your child likes it, they can switch over to our IP program at a pro-rated rate. Register here:
Learn to Skate Program
We have also confirmed with our friends at Frontenac Fury that they will be offering First Shift programming again this year. We will share these details once they are confirmed.
U7 (IP) PROGRAM
U7 (IP) Programming will kick off after the rink officially opens, and the first ice time for the future of our Frontenac Flyers will be Friday, September 19th at 5:30/6:30 for our two groups. Parents are encouraged to come out and help on the ice if you are able and interested (helmet, skates and stick mandatory). The more help we have on the ice the better we can keep those busy little bodies moving and learning.
More information on both of these programs will be coming shortly from Hannah Barker, our LTS and IP Coordinator.
U9MD TRYOUTS
U9MD Shake the Rust (STR) and Tryouts are now scheduled and kick off right away on September 2nd. There will be three optional STR skates followed by three tryouts (3rd tryout may be by invitation only, at the coaches discretion), which can all be found on our
Calendar. The cost for STR and tryouts is $150. For those not interested in Shake the Rust, the Tryout only cost is $100. Register here:
A reminder that all players must first register for U8 or U9 LL, before being able to register for U9MD STR/tryouts.
Coach Mike Shulist will be reaching out to all U8/U9 aged players that have registered for LL with more information!
PRE-SEASON LL DEVELOPMENT
With the early opening at FCA, we are pleased to be offering pre-season development opportunities for our LL players AND goalies.
Players
Due to family interest we will be offering 2 x 1hr pre-skates for our Flyers. Dates are the morning of Sat 6 Sept, and after school on Tuesday 9 Sept. $50 for the two sessions which is approx 60% the cost of similar programs in town. This will be on a first come, first serve basis so register early if you do not want to miss out. Register Here:
2025-2026 Pre-Season Development
Goalies
To be more cost efficient, we will be hosting two FREE (to Frontenac only) goalie clinics before the season starts. This will offset the in-season development sessions that we will not be offering for goalies this year as feedback from our goalie development coaches has been that the clinic setting is best for our goalies development. To register for our goalie clinics including a LEARN TO PLAY session, please reach email Jeff Ottenhof:

OPENING DAY AT FCA - SEPT. 13, 2025
Official opening at the rink this year will be Saturday, September 13th. This is the day that all of our regular LL programming will kick off! Times are already loaded into the calendar for September if you want to have a sneak-peak at when you will be on the ice. Please note that these times will be subject to change as we fine-tune all of our programming, so be sure to check the calendar regularly!
Opening Day will be an open skate to all LL players, which will then follow with LL Shake the Rust skates on Sept. 15/16 and then our LL evaluations/team building on Sept. 20. Please note that we are unable to take player/coach requests again this year.
CALL FOR LL COACHES (U8, U9, U15, and U18)
Once our U9MD tryouts are completed, we will be looking to quickly fill our U8 and U9 LL coaching roles. If you know that this is something you are interested in already, feel free to apply now! (same link as above)
CALL FOR ICHL COORDINATOR
We are still searching for someone to take over our ICHL Coordinator role. All of our Local League (LL) teams play in the Inter-Community Hockey League (ICHL). Our ICHL coordinator attends our monthly FMHA board meetings, represents FMH at the ICHL meetings and reports information back to our board, helps decide LL playoff formats, assists with our LL team evaluations in September, shares information with our LL coaches, and assists our LL coaches along with our Coach Coordinators. This is an exciting role for anyone looking to help out beyond the team level.
SELECT TEAMS 2025
We are excited to be offering U11, U13, and (new for this year) U15 LL Select teams. In order for Select hockey to be able to run, we require ice time for the teams, coaches, and enough players (including goalies) to roster a team. We have ice time allocated in Tamworth and we have already announced our Select coaches for the 2025-2026 season. All that we need now is the players!
Select tryouts are already scheduled on our association
Calendar. There is NO cost for these tryouts. Depending on the number of players interested that attend the evaluation skate, the coaches will then determine which players will be able to join the Select team. We would love to have every LL player join that are interested in Select, but we can only roster a certain number of players to each team so there may be a need to make the difficult decision to not take all players.
If you want to reach out to the Select coach in your division or our coordinator:
U11 - Randy Kempe
U13 - Kody Adams
U15 - Tom Westendorp
Select Coordinator - Jenn Moore
More information will be circulated to these age groups regarding our Select programming, fees, and evaluations once registration wraps up in early September.
FHMA COMMUNICATIONS
One of the keys to success for any team or organization is communication. Building from past surveys/poll responses from our families, we will be continuing to provide larger/association wide updates, such as this one, via email. In addition to the emails, the same updates will be posted to our website.
We will also be posting regularly on our Facebook group - Frontenac Minor Hockey. If you are not one of our 610 members that have joined the group, be sure to join and follow along as this is where you can find other quick updates from FMHA, reminders, and posts from our teams.
We are serious about having you reach out if you have any questions. All of our board members are volunteers who are donating their time towards community hockey simply because of their love for the game. We enjoy nothing more than helping our families out, and responding to your questions is an easy way for us to help. No question is a silly question! If you are unsure about something there are likely others who are in the same boat and asking those questions will help us ensure we are not forgetting anything in our communications.
