The ice is in and programming is starting to get underway! The intent of this email is to provide all of our Local League (LL) families an update on the start of the season and team forming. We're all excited to get our LL season officially started this Saturday, Sept. 13th!
Feel free to reach out if you are still unsure of when your player is on the ice or how the process works.

LOCAL LEAGUE (LL) PROGRAMMING
Here is the plan for LL. It is the same plan as previous years:
Week 1 - Sept. 13-19 - Shake the Rust, open practices by age group. Take a look at times on the website
Week 2 - Sept. 20-26 - Team Building. Take a look at times on the website
Week 3 & 4 - Sept. 27 - 10 Oct - Pre-Season
Week 5 - after Thanksgiving - potential Reg Season start (still to be confirmed, our first ICHL league meeting is next week)
Local League Team Construction
Our goal is to always balance our local league teams. Over the years we have developed the following procedure:
1 - On 20 Sept all Local League players are evaluated by a group of coaches/executive & parents
2 - On the day of evaluations the teams are made. Factors considered include skill, age (major/minor), coaches, goalies, and roster size.
3 - Initial rosters are made by the Board. The Local League coaches are part of the process. Coaches have an opportunity to make adjustments
4 - The following week (22/23 Sept) the Local League teams scrimmage to ensure they are equal. Coaches are given an opportunity to make adjustments
Parent Requests - No parent requests will be accepted this year. We have tried to accommodate previously, but was unmanageable. Every family has preferences and special circumstances.
LL Season Schedule
The LL Scheduling Meetings will occur the first week of Oct. The season dates will be post thanksgiving to first weekend in March
LL Development
Similar to previous years we will have development coaches (Darcy Greenaway and Dave McMullen) coming out once a month to run development sessions for all teams. Goalie development will be done through clinics so our goalies can get the most of their time with the goalie development coaches. These sessions are free of charge, and are paid for by association fundraising that occurs throughout the year.
SELECT PROGRAMMING
Building from our success and lessons learned from last year, we will try to run Select Programming at U11, U13, and U15 age divisions.
The intent of Select is to give interested LL players and families extra development. It is a secondary program. Local League takes priority over Select. These teams will only be run if there is enough player interest.
Select will involve a couple of practices a month, some extra games and additional tournaments. Please note that similar to our Rep Programming, there will be extra costs associated (jerseys, ice, tournaments, refs etc)
If you want to reach out to the Select coach in your division or our coordinator:
U11 - Randy Kempe
U13 - Kody Adams
U15 - Tom Westendorp
Select tryout dates and times are on the Calendar
LL AND SELECT TOURNAMENTS
Based on some feedback from last year and in an effort to ensure our LL programming remains accessible to all, we will be capping the number of tournaments that our LL and Select teams can enter this year. This year we will be enforcing the following
Each LL Team - no more than 2 tournaments
Each Select Team - no more than 2 tournaments
This will result in players that do play Select entering no more than 4 tournaments (2 LL + 2 Select). For comparison, our Rep teams are capped at 4 tournaments per year
Tournaments can be expensive for families (travel, accomodations, food, etc.) so limiting these will help keep costs down, regardless of any fundraising that the team may do to help with tournament entry fees.
FUNDRAISING
Fundraising guidelines will be shared with all coaches and team managers this year, more info to come!
