Congratulations to Barret Joynt who played in the OHL Gold Cup this past week. The top 128 prospects across Ontario came together to form 8 teams and play 4 games each in Kitchener. The top players from this tournament will be invited to skate in Calgary next summer where they will form Team Canada's U17 team. Barret played for OMHA White who finished 4th overall in the tournament.
In his first game Barret scored 2 goals and was selected as team MVP for OMHA White in a 5-4 shootout loss to GTHL Blue (who went on to win the tournament). Many OHL, NCAA and some NHL scouts were in attendance for the week long tournament. Barret was drafted in the 15th round in this years past OHL draft by the Kingston Frontenacs. So how does a 15th round pick make it to such a prestigious tournament with only the top 128 players invited? "WORK ETHIC". We wish Barret, a past Frontenac Flyer, continued success and nice to see his hard work paying off. Mason Joynt played on the Peewee Rep team and Dad Derek helped coach the team this past season at Frontenac as well.
